In the lead up to the general election in 2015, Positive Money are focusing on engaging MPs in the issue of money creation and the impact of it on our economy.

Some of you may have already contacted your local representative, and hopefully many of you are planning on doing so. Keeping track of our interactions with MP’s is central to Positive Money’s success. I am looking for Local Political Co-ordinators who may be able to lead locally on making contact with MP’s. You don’t need to be a political expert, I certainly am not, and it will only take up a small amount of time per month. Currently, it might be the most important volunteering you do for Positive Money.

If you agree to help you’ll need to:

  • Update us about the contact you’ve had with your MP

  • Be the main point of contact for other supporters in your local area who also want to engage with their MP

  • Think about new ways to motivate local Positive Money supporters to engage with MPs

  • Get updates from Positive Money on the backbench debate and other political activity

Experience isn’t necessary and you don’t need to fully understand all the technical details – we will support you in the knowledge you need. All you need is enthusiasm to get involved and contact your MP.

If this sounds like something you want to do please email me at shirley@positivemoney.org

I am preparing to go and meet my MP this week. I feel a little bit nervous and hope I use this opportunity well.  It is so important that our politicians understand how money works so that they can make good decisions about our economy and our futures.

How do I talk to the person who represents me in Parliament in a measured and productive way?  All I want them to do is to accept the way things are and explore if it could be done better. The British Public deserves some updated laws; laws on money creation are much the same as they were in 1844.

Wish me luck for later in the week. Fran is coming with me to offer support. We’ll let you know how we get on.
