Merry Christmas from Positive Money 🎄 What a year it’s been!

Yesterday evening a new episode of Dispatches, the investigative journalism documentary on the UK’s Channel 4, asks the question “Can you trust your bank?”. HBOS whistleblower Paul Moore is featured.

The 27 minute documentary is available to watch for free at 4od (only available to UK viewers, unfortunately) and Jon Snow has blogged on his interview with Paul Moore. A couple of extracts below:

[sws_blockquote_endquote align=”center” cite=”Jon Snow” link=”http://blogs.channel4.com/snowblog/banks-drugs-mexico-job-british-government/18203″ quotestyle=”style02″]So Paul Moore, formerly responsible for compliance at HBOS and who was sacked after warning in 2004 that the bank’s lending was risky and in serious danger of-heating, has applied to be the Chairman of Barclays.

Mr. Moore, whom I met and talked with extensively last week, is unlikely to be hanging around his phone in the expectation of a Barclays call.

Although, I have met no one who knows quite so much about where the more noxious of the banking bodies are buried.

Mr. Moore’s request to replace the resigned, and currently un-resigned Chairman of Barclays, Marcus Agius, provides yet another bizarre notch on the bedpost of British banking. The explosion of scandal in the banking sector feels like something that hasn’t been seen since the South Sea Bubble burst in 1720.[/sws_blockquote_endquote]

Paul’s also speaking on BBC Business Daily (a radio show), regarding his pitch to be appointed as chairman of Barclays and to head up the ‘clean up’ operation after their numerous scandals. You can listen here.
