“Where Does Money Come From?” The Graphic Novel

by Nonhlanhla Makuyana

Positive Money’s empowered supporters are an integral part to our work towards reforming the money and banking system. Through hosting events, writing plays, hosting film screenings and speaking at events, our supporters continue to creatively educate more and more people about where money comes from. One of our amazing supporters John O’Flynn has used his talents to put together this fun and educational graphic novel titled “Where Does Money Come From?”.  In the blog post we debut  “Where Does Money Come From” alongside some words about John’s inspiration to create this great graphic novel…

“I believe that if one doesn’t know something about the creation of money, one can make little sense of all the various crises that seem to be enveloping us today, both domestically and internationally. Because they are all interrelated and the globalised ‘money system’ is at the heart of it all! I think Positive Money is doing a really great job in educating and promoting awareness of our money system. I thought I might ‘do my bit’ by using the combination of my graphic skills and my penchant for reading around this often arcane and dry material! Good artwork comes about when the artist is strongly motivated! In a departure from my usual drawing and painting work (and some graphics), I had decided to try some exercises in the “graphic novel” genre. So this subject seemed to ‘fit the bill!’  It was also an intellectual challenge to see if I could communicate this subject in so short and abridged a format. More importantly, if successful the “graphic story” format might open this topic up for more people to investigate for themselves.”

John O’Flynn is an illustrator and painter based in Dublin. You can find more of his work  here.
