Get us into the mainstream media in 2014

by Positive Money

It’s been an exciting few months for the campaign to fix our money system. I can’t say we’re at a tipping point yet, but things are really speeding up.
Mainstream journalists have started to talk about the fact that we can’t continue to fuel our economy through money created as debt by the banks. In the Telegraph, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard has spoken about the dangers of ever-rising personal debt, the failure of Quantitative Easing, and the need to get newly-created money into the real economy. Similar articles have been written by Anatole Kaletsky at Reuters and Martin Wolf at the Financial Times. Even Dame Vivienne Westwood has written about the power of banks to create money!

GETTING INTO THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IN 2014

Can you chip in to make this happen?

Our priority for the next year is to really push the media to talk more about the need for money reform. Journalists writing about the big social and economic issues of today must understand how money works and why we are heading towards another crisis. For example, no journalist should talk about unaffordable housing without also talking about the link between money creation and house price bubbles.

But getting into the press takes time and contacts, so we’ve enlisted some help. Martin Campbell is a PR man who’s spent years working for alternative finance companies (such as Zopa) and campaigns (such as Move Your Money) getting them into the press and onto Newsnight. He’s also worked for Virgin and the Pensions Policy Institute.

Martin’s been offering us advice, but we’d like him to work with us on a longer-term basis to get exposure and publicity for Positive Money and our debate. But to do that, we need your help.

Can you help us hire Martin to get Positive Money into the mainstream media? Click to donate  monthly or one-off. You donation will be matched for the next 12 months.

Ultimately we need the government to change laws to fix the money system, and government (and MPs generally) only really respond to two things:

  • Pressure from the mainstream media
  • And pressure from the public
Dealing with the press is where we have the least experience, and where Martin’s years of work and his contacts will really help to speed things up.

ALL DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED – DOUBLING YOUR DONATION

We’re very lucky that Gordon Styles, a British engineer and entrepreneur, has offered to match all donations for this work for the next 12 months, up to a limit of £10,000. That means that if you donate £10 a month, Gordon will donate an extra £120 over the next 12 months. That doubles your donation, helps us start to break through into the mainstream press, and makes Positive Money more sustainable for the long term.

Can you set up a donation to help us get Positive Money into the mainstream media? Click to donate monthly or one-off, and your donation will be matched for the next 12 months.

Over half of Positive Money’s funding comes from about 450 people who donate an average of £8.50 per month. There’s no way we would have been able to survive until now without that support. If you can join those 450 people, please consider setting up a monthly donation:

THE NEXT BIG STEP

Together we’ve laid a great foundation over the last three and a half years – with 16,000 supporters online, around 15 local groups around the UK and another 15 national campaigns kicking off around the world. The next big step is to break through into the media and create a mainstream debate about who should create our money, and how they should get to use it. So if you can, please consider making a monthly or one-off donation so that we can get Martin on board, break through into the mainstream media and reach millions of people.

Thanks for all your support!
