Getting people together in your local area is a great way to raise awareness about our broken money and banking system with local people, the media and politicians, and to recruit new local group members. You could run your own event or get involved with existing events, festivals and conferences. Events are often fun too!
Whatever event you go to, remember to take a signup form! It’s a crucial way Positive Money gets more supporters.
WHAT TYPE OF EVENT COULD I ORGANISE?
Show a film: You could put on a screening of the exposing documentary 97% Owned or one of Positive Money’s videos. This is a great way to kick off your meeting and spark discussion.
Presentation: We have Positive Money speakers across the UK. If possible, we will provide a speaker for your event. You could also research who in your local area is an expert on the subject – perhaps there’s a university professor? Or you could invite speakers from other local activist groups like Friends of the Earth or the Quakers.
Hold a street stall: This could be at the local market on a Saturday morning, or as part of a local festival.
Host a debate: like this debate on housing organised by the Hackney local group
Organise a hustings with MPs: like this one organised by the Bristol local group
Hold a stand at a local festival: like the Southampton local group did on May Day
